Family Sciences emphasizes the integration of individual development, family development, and family economics and management.  Students may choose a program from among courses that focus on developmental theory, lifespan human development, family system dynamics, family intervention, family economics and management, consumer economics, and management of resources.  The program prepares professionals for positions of leadership in various settings including public and private service agencies and businesses. The Bachelor of Science in Family Sciences is accredited by AAFCS along with other Bachelor's degrees in the School of Human Environmental Sciences.

What will you study?

Required family and consumer science courses include such contemporary family issue areas as; family resource management, financial management, human development throughout the lifespan, psychology, sociology, family relations, research methods, and an internship in agencies in the community.

This degree is suitable for family and consumer oriented employment with business, community, and public, private, or non-profit agencies and organizations. Graduates with a Family Science Bachelor's degree are well prepared to help individuals and families through careers in many local, state, and national settings. Graduate and Professional School

An undergraduate degree in family science also provides a solid foundation for those interested in pursuing careers in family law or family therapy. In addition to master's and doctoral programs in family sciences, the department has a nationally competitive master's program in Couples & Family Therapy. Outstanding Family Science students are well-positioned to apply for this program after completing an undergraduate degree.
